Tenants and Service Users

This page is a guide to the things on our website we think you may be interested in. You can use the search facility or the left hand menu to find other information which is not listed here. If you would like us to include other information in this section or elsewhere in our website please contact us.

Register

By law we are responsible for registering social landlords as RSLs [see glossary] including housing associations, Abbeyfield Societies and Local Housing Organisations which manage stock in Glasgow.

Our register holds about each RSL, including their rules, accounts, certain policies, basic statistics and information about group structures.

You can search the register by RSL name, type or location.

We do not register local authority housing and homelessness services.

Assess risk

We undertake an annual risk assessment of every RSL.

We take decisions about how to engage with each RSL based on that assessment. Engagement can take a number of different forms: for example we might ask an RSL to provide additional information or to carry out a self-assessment and submit the results to us. We might inspect an RSL or appoint someone to the Board of the RSL.

We publish the decisions emerging from that process

Our Guide to How We Regulate explains our principles and approach.

Performance profile information

We publish a summary of the performance of each RSL based on the information they supply to us each year.

You can access a profile of any particular organisation by going into the register. You can search for an RSL alphabetically by name, by type, or by local authority area in which they operate. On each RSL’s page you will be able to see their rules, accounts, their allocations policy and basic statistics.

You can also see a review of the sector as a whole including tables of performance information in our Annual Review and Financial Digest.

This does not generally apply to to local authorities, Abbeyfield Societies or management only LHOs in Glasgow. If you wish to access similar information about local authorities, please visit this page of the Audit Scotland website which allows you to view information by the service and year.

Tenant assessors

A number of tenants work with us during inspections to help our inspectors to gain a customer perspective on housing services. You can read more about what these tenant assessors do.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a tenant assessor, please contact us.

Inspection

We publish a leaflet on the inspection process for tenants and service users.

We inspect RSLs and the housing and homelessness services of local authorities. We will inspect every newly registered RSL, and will carry out at least one inspection of all local authority housing and homelessness services.

You can see published reports of inspections which we have completed or which were carried out by us or our predecessor body, Communities Scotland, where these are available.

A number of local authorities and RSLs are included in the programme of inspection during the coming year.

Glossary

We try to use plain English, as far as possible on our website and in all our published documents.

However at times we may use some technical terms. These are explained in our glossary.

If there are any terms that are still not clear or are not covered in the glossary, please let us know.

Complaints

Information on how to complain about a landlord is available here. If you would like to complain or offer feedback about us, you can find out how to do this here.

Freedom of Information

Consultations

We publish consultation papers, many of which will be relevant to tenants and service users of social landlords, and we appreciate any comments you have.
