Communities Scotland’s Equalities Impact Assessments

Public authorities such as Communities Scotland must produce evidence on the way they Mainstream Equalities.

Mainstreaming equality means systematically integrating equality into our everyday work; not addressing it as an afterthought but building it in from the outset; not seeing it as something only relevant for specific groups of people but as something that affects everyone’s abilities to fulfil all of their potential. To do this each area of our work must be the subject of an Equalities Impact Assessment (EQIA).

The purpose of equalities impact assessment is to identify groups of people who might be affected differently by a particular policy in ways that are unfair and against the law. It is also helpful when considering how we could address this.
