Equalities
Communities Scotland works with and for communities that are likely to experience disproportionate levels of discrimination and disadvantage. In regenerating communities we must ensure we are doing all we can to promote equality and respect diversity. On these pages we offer a range of resources for people who want to learn more about our equality work as well as some background on the bigger picture.
At present the law only requires us to have equalities schemes related to three of the six equalities strands. Communities Scotland, like the Scottish Government, takes this further by adopting six equalities strands in our work. These six equalities have been formally recognised in Scottish law:
Age
Young and older people
Disability
Including people with mental health issues or learning disabilities
Race
Black and minority ethnic people (including refugees and Gypsies/Travellers)
Gender
Men and women
Religion/belief
People of different faiths and beliefs
Sexual orientation
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
