Hints and Tips – how to develop the strategy
• Where appropriate use the national priorities for community regeneration as a means of analysing need and setting objectives.
• Make the most of the SIMD. The SIMD allows regeneration practitioners to highlight small areas of deprivation and analyse different aspects of deprivation.
• Bear in mind the needs of different equality groups within each neighbourhood, and take account of how these needs vary across the CPP area.
• Take a balanced approach to the analysis of need. Stakeholder and community consultations are vital steps in identifying problems and agreeing objectives.
• Make sure that partners approach discussions not just with projects in mind but also with full consideration of the evidence of need.
• Help communities link specific local problems and desires into wider strategies.
• Use surveys or focus groups to help establish a broad understanding of an area’s problems.
• Take a focused approach to addressing the key problems in an area. Covering too many issues may reduce the overall impact on the targeted communities.
