Local Housing Strategy
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 requires local authorities to undertake a comprehensive assessment of housing needs and conditions, and to produce strategies to tackle the housing problems in their areas. Communities Scotland assess these local housing strategies (LHS) on behalf of Scottish Ministers.
Guidance has been produced to assist local authorities and others in the preparation of LHS. The detailed assessment criteria are also available.
May 2007: Guidance on preparing Strategic Housing Investment Plans
A new requirement is for local authorities to produce a Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP.) Download the guidance document and templates on the preparation of SHIPs.
