Scottish Community Action Research Fund

Scottish Community Action Research Fund (SCARF)

There will not be a SCARF funding round in February 2008.  This is because there has been a very high level of successful SCARF applications since we launched the fund in October 2006 and the money for grants is now fully committed.  We are considering whether there should be more SCARF funding rounds later in 2008 and will make a decision in due course.  We will keep you updated through this website.

The Scottish Community Action Research Fund gives community groups support to improve their skills and confidence to carry out their own research. The fund helps them to plan a project, collect information and understand it, use the information and learn from the experience.

The Scottish Community Action Research Fund (SCARF) supports community organisations to plan and carry out their own research that helps them to:

• understand the needs of their communities

• promote action to tackle them

• improve the quality of life for everyone in their communities.

It is provided by Communities Scotland and managed by the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC).

How can SCARF help you?

Supporting you to develop research skills helps build a strong community organisation that knows about:

• community needs and the problems that people face

• the strengths and abilities of your community

• the services and resources available to you and any gaps

• what sort of action needed and how it can be taken.

If you want to know more about this, read A Better Scotland for Everyone - Closing the Gap and People and Place, the 2006 Regeneration Policy Statement.
